As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A prominent educator who has made a significant impact with higher education, nonprofit organizations and churches, Dr. Flaaten currently serves as the Executive Director of The Center for Healthy Relationships at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. There, she leads a dynamic team that creates practical and innovative resources to encourage and empower the growth of healthy relationships in both personal and professional settings. Under her guidance, the Center has expanded its strategic vision and broadened its reach—locally, nationally, and internationally—through innovative resources, research initiatives, and community engagement. Her role also encompasses thought leadership, publishing, fundraising, and championing service-based collaboration.

Dr. Flaaten's ability to integrate decades of experience into transformative programming has earned her recognition as a trusted voice in relational development. She serves on the board of directors for the Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce and participates in NextUp, a nonprofit that provides leadership development and opportunities for women with the goal of advancing equity in the workplace. It is particularly meaningful for her to mentor younger leaders, as well as doctoral students whose research focuses on gender bias. Reflecting on her storied journey, she attributes her success to the unwavering support of mentors, friends and her family who have contributed to her personal and professional growth.

Prior to joining The Center for Healthy Relationships, Dr. Flaaten was a writer, editor and presenter with the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada from 2019 to 2022, where she tackled complex topics such as sexuality, gender identity, and abortion within the Christian context. Her balanced, multi-perspective approach positioned her as a courageous and thoughtful communicator.

From 2005 to 2022, Dr. Flaaten held multiple pastoral and leadership roles at Centre Street Church in Calgary, which was Canada's largest church. As a global leadership trainer, she led cross-cultural initiatives in Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador, India, and South Africa. These experiences profoundly shaped her philosophy on community, collaboration, and leadership.

A passionate advocate for women and marginalized communities, Dr. Flaaten has partnered with organizations such as Opportunity International, World Vision Canada, WorldServe Ministries, and Christian Indigenous Development Overseas. Her personal mission—to be a voice for the quiet—drives her efforts to connect resources with need, and opportunity with potential.

Having an equally accomplished academic background, Dr. Flaaten earned a Doctor of Ministry in Leadership from Denver Seminary (2025), a Master of Arts in Christian Counseling from American Christian College and Seminary (2005), and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary (1987). She is a Licensed minister with the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada, trained in coaching with an International Coaching Federation-accredited organization, and Certified in Advanced Spiritual Direction through New Ways Ministry. Each of these milestones has contributed to her foundation in education, counseling, and leadership development, allowing her to address challenging topics while continually adapting to modern-day practices.

Also known for her influential contributions as an author, Dr. Flaaten wrote "A Woman and Her Relationships," published by Beacon Hill Press and recipient of the Word Guild Award with Write! Canada. Her second work, "A Woman and Her Workplace", also published by Beacon Hill Press, became a top-selling book in Spanish, underscoring her global reach and relevance.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Flaaten is a devoted wife, mother of three, and recent grandmother. She treasures the years she dedicated to raising her children, viewing them as formative to her leadership and relational insight. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, spirited board games, and outdoor pursuits like cycling, gardening, and travel.

Looking ahead, Dr. Flaaten envisions The Center for Healthy Relationships as a leading force in shaping resources on relational formation for emerging adults. Her legacy continues to be defined by education, mentorship, and a deep commitment to relational wholeness—qualities that resonate across communities and cultures.
