CINCINNATI, OH, May 13, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Melinda J. Grisco has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Grisco has established a distinguished career in education, food service management and storytelling, marked by adaptability and a commitment to lifelong learning. Since 2009, she has served as a substitute teacher with the Hamilton County Educational Service Center, a consortium supporting numerous schools throughout the county. In this capacity, she selects and manages her teaching assignments through an online portal, allowing her to tailor her schedule and focus primarily on grades four through eight. She is recognized for her expertise in engaging students within this age group, ensuring curriculum continuity by diligently following lesson plans provided by permanent teachers. Her ability to maintain classroom command—even in the absence of prepared materials—has become a point of professional pride. Drawing upon her extensive experience and resourcefulness, she consistently redirects student focus toward productive learning, upholding educational standards regardless of the circumstances.
In addition to her work with the Hamilton County Educational Service Center, Ms. Grisco also serves as a substitute teacher for Cincinnati Public Schools and various private institutions, including Catholic and Lutheran schools. Her role across these districts is entirely on an as-needed basis, filling instructional gaps wherever required. This flexibility has allowed her to adapt to diverse school environments and grade-level requirements over the past 17 years.
Prior to her tenure in education, Ms. Grisco was self-employed and operated a cleaning business for approximately 20 years beginning in the mid-1990s. What started as a single window-cleaning job quickly expanded through word-of-mouth referrals, eventually requiring additional help from family members. The business remained a small-scale operation focused on personalized service rather than formal expansion.
Ms. Grisco's professional journey began even earlier, as a third-generation master cobbler from 1977 to 1994. She entered the family trade at a young age, receiving informal training in her father's shoe shop before assuming greater responsibility when her father retired and her mother became ill. Saturdays became the busiest day under her management, and she was entrusted with running the shop independently during peak hours until the business was sold.
Academically, Ms. Grisco earned a bachelor's degree in health and wellness from Antioch University Midwest College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, in 2008, graduating early after maintaining an accelerated course load year-round and earning dean's list honors. She also completed coursework at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio and pursued early childhood education studies at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Furthering her expertise, Ms. Grisco holds several professional certifications that have enhanced her versatility across fields. She possesses K–12 teaching certification, enabling her to teach any grade level within Ohio schools. Additionally, she is credentialed as a certified dietary manager and certified food protection professional through Sinclair Community College and holds a ServSafe certification.
A lifelong learner with an active mind, Ms. Grisco attributes her success to her curiosity and adaptability, qualities reinforced by both positive role models and cautionary examples throughout her life. She values continuous growth over fixed achievement, believing that an open mind ensures learning never truly ends.
Beyond the classroom, Ms. Grisco is deeply involved in storytelling and writing for children. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the West Virginia Storytelling Guild, Ohio Storytelling Network, Kentucky Storytelling Association and Longmont Spellbinders. She also explores her Appalachian heritage through membership in the Appalachian Authors Guild. Through these affiliations, she regularly attends conferences to perform and refine her craft while connecting with fellow storytellers.
Ms. Grisco's passion for storytelling led to authorship; inspired by experiences as an in-home tutor for medically fragile students, she began writing children's books tailored for readers aged seven to fourteen, an audience often overlooked between picture books and heavier chapter books. Many of her stories draw from tales shared by her father, reimagined for contemporary readers. Her works are available on Amazon and in local libraries such as Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Libraries in Ohio and Greene County Public Libraries.
Outside her professional pursuits, Ms. Grisco's civic engagement includes volunteer service with Freestore Foodbank in Cincinnati and contributions to public library initiatives. Born in Mariemount, Ohio, in 1961 but raised with strong ties to Cincinnati, she is the mother of two children—a daughter who lives nearby with two children of her own— and a son residing in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who has found success as an extra in Western films after completing four years of college and military service. Ms. Grisco's eldest grandchild recently graduated cum laude from Walnut Hills High School—one of Ohio's top-ranked institutions—and will attend Ohio State University for pre-medical studies. Her personal interests include gardening, playing the banjo and nurturing close relationships with family members—especially her young grandson.
Looking ahead, Ms. Grisco envisions dedicating more time to writing new children's books and expanding her reach as a storyteller at community events across different locations. She intends to continue cultivating both literary projects and horticultural ambitions—including growing prize-winning tomatoes for state fair competitions—while maintaining active licensure as a substitute teacher so she can balance family commitments with ongoing contributions to education whenever needed.
