Since 2025, he has served as the director of didactic education for the physician assistant program at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
In this role, Dr. McCrary provides leadership across the didactic curriculum, supports course coordination and instructional planning, manages student scheduling and academic progression processes, and helps guide program operations through committee service and faculty collaboration. He is also heavily involved in classroom and laboratory instruction, with teaching responsibilities that include anatomy, cadaveric dissection, clinical reasoning, simulation-based education, standardized patient encounters and point-of-care ultrasound education. As one of the founding faculty members of the physician assistant program at Middle Tennessee State University, Dr. McCrary has contributed to the development of its academic structure, student assessment processes, laboratory experiences and early program culture.
In 2022, Dr. McCrary began his academic career, marking his transition from clinical practice to higher education. His work in medical education reflects his commitment to developing clinically prepared, thoughtful and adaptable physician assistant students.
Prior to transitioning fully into academia, Dr. McCrary practiced clinically with Fast Pace Health from 2017 to 2026, serving patients in urgent care clinics across Tennessee, from Memphis to Newport. His work included evaluation and management of a broad range of acute illnesses and injuries, procedural care, occupational medicine, pediatric and adult urgent care, and clinic leadership responsibilities. From 2017 to 2018, he also served as a clinic coordinator in the Knoxville metropolitan area, balancing direct patient care with operational oversight.
His early clinical experience includes serving as a physician assistant at Tennessee Pediatric and Adolescent Center in Cookeville, Tennessee, between 2016 and 2018, where he focused on pediatric medicine following his graduation from physician assistant school.
Before embarking on his medical career, Dr. McCrary was involved in teaching as a clogging instructor at Cannon Arts Dance Studio in Woodbury, Tennessee, from 2010 to 2014. He also worked as a biology department student worker at Middle Tennessee State University between 2009 and 2013, supporting laboratory activities and academic functions. In 2012, Dr. McCrary interned as a drug chemist at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's drug chemistry lab in Nashville, Tennessee. This formative experience influenced his decision to pursue medicine rather than forensic science full-time.
Throughout his career, Dr. McCrary has maintained active membership in several professional organizations that reflect his commitment to advancing the physician assistant profession and medical education. He has been a member of the Academy of Physician Associates in Legal Medicine since 2026, the Academy of Doctoral PAs since 2025 and the PA Education Association since 2022. His longstanding affiliations include membership with the Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants since 2016 and the American Academy of Physician Associates since 2014.
Dr. McCrary's educational background is extensive. He earned his Doctor of Medical Science with a focus on medical education from Lincoln Memorial University in 2022. During his doctoral work, his research focused on patient satisfaction and the development of interpersonal skills among health care providers. He previously completed a master's degree in medical science with an emphasis on physician assistant studies at Lincoln Memorial University in 2016. Dr. McCrary earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in forensic science from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, graduating in 2013 as one of the first graduates of the university's forensic science program.
Education played a crucial role in Dr. McCrary's life early on; he graduated from high school at age 15 and completed his undergraduate degree by 19, an accelerated path that presented unique challenges but ultimately led him to discover the physician assistant profession. During his undergraduate studies, he interned at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's drug chemistry lab and considered pursuing forensic science before choosing medicine.
Dr. McCrary is licensed as a physician assistant in Tennessee and has maintained clinical certifications relevant to emergency, urgent care, pediatric and procedural practice throughout his career. His professional preparation also includes training in research ethics, responsible conduct of research, health information privacy and clinical education.

Since 2026, he has served as a board member and show director for Bravo Boro, contributing leadership within the arts community. He has been an ad hoc peer reviewer for the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Associates since 2025. Since 2024, he has also served on the continuing medical education committee for the student track with the Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants, where he helps organize workshops, coordinate speakers and support educational programming for students during the annual Fall Fest conference.
Additionally, Dr. McCrary has served as treasurer for Called to Serve since 2023, helping organize and manage finances for medical mission work in Central and South America, including Peru and Guatemala. He was a House of Delegates representative for Tennessee with the American Academy of Physician Associates in Denver in 2025 and served as a medical provider with International Medical Relief in 2023. His earlier service included medical mission work as a physician assistant student in Peru, patient care volunteer work with Saint Thomas Health in Nashville, grant writing for opiate relief initiatives with the Cannon County Drug Commission and continued service as a member of Cannon Lodge #774 F&AM.
Among his many accolades, Dr. McCrary was honored as the inaugural recipient of Lincoln Memorial University's prestigious Forty Under Forty Award in 2025, recognizing alumni under 40 who have made significant contributions or demonstrated innovation within their fields. He also received the Bioventures Biotechnology Scholarship from Middle Tennessee State University in 2013 while an undergraduate.
Looking ahead, Dr. McCrary aims for Middle Tennessee State University's physician assistant program to graduate highly skilled clinicians serving rural communities across Tennessee and beyond, with a lasting impact on patient care nationwide. He also hopes to continue growing as an educator and leader while serving the university, the physician assistant profession and the broader Middle Tennessee community.
