WESTBROOK, CT, May 13, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Francis Edward Daniel Crowley, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Crowley has distinguished himself as a leading expert in English literature and creative writing, building a career that spans more than five decades. Since 2016, he has served as the founder, managing editor and executive producer of an hour-long television program at Valley Shore Community Television in Westbrook, Connecticut. Under his leadership, the show—originally titled Poetry of Immigrants—has produced 100 episodes, including 40 focused on immigrant poetry and culminating with his 60th and final episode in May 2026. The series, now broadcast internationally online, remains available through continuous video on demand. Dr. Crowley's commitment to this project is entirely volunteer-based, reflecting his dedication to community engagement and the literary arts.

Prior to his work in broadcasting, Dr. Crowley was recognized as a professor emeritus in the humanities at Gateway Community College from 1986 to 2004. During his tenure, he inspired generations of students through composition and literature courses, earning a reputation for fostering deep connections that have endured long after graduation. His approach centered on student feedback and engagement, which directly influenced his later publishing endeavors.

From 1980 to 1985, Dr. Crowley contributed to Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic as a faculty member, further developing his pedagogical expertise and expanding his influence within academic circles. Before this appointment, he served at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, from 1977 to 1980. His time at Augustana followed a significant administrative role as executive director of higher education facilities for the Department of Higher Education in the State of South Dakota from 1972 to 1980. In this capacity, he coordinated with colleges across the region, overseeing critical infrastructure projects and supporting institutional growth. Earlier in his career, he worked with the Department of Higher Education for the State of Connecticut from 1967 to 1970.

Throughout his professional journey, Dr. Crowley has achieved several notable milestones. He is especially proud of authoring a series of six non-fiction anthologies motivated by student writing. This project culminated in Stories from the Other Side: Thematic Memoirs, published by Pearson Learning Solutions in 2009. The anthology features first-person narratives centered on epiphanies and includes contributions from writers worldwide—including Russia, South Dakota and Arizona—where Dr. Crowley spent several years at the University of Arizona Poetry Center during retirement. The collection remains in print and continues to reach new audiences.

Dr. Crowley's literary accomplishments also include Bar Poems, a self-published collection released in 2016 that reflects his lifelong dedication to poetry and personal growth as a writer. Over his 55-year career in teaching and publishing, he has produced numerous literary publications and travel books that have enriched both academic and public discourse.

Dr. Crowley's expertise is further recognized through prestigious honors, such as the Junior Fulbright Fellowship awarded by the University of Munich in Germany in 1981, which was a significant validation of his teaching career. He has also been an active member of the Modern Language Association since 2001.

Educationally, Dr. Crowley's foundation is both broad and distinguished. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in English literature and psychology—a hybrid specialty—from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1980. His undergraduate studies were completed at Fairfield University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in English language with a minor in Russian in 1964. He continued graduate coursework in Russian at the State University of New York at Buffalo and earned additional credits from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In 1972, he completed a Master of Arts in English language at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.

Reflecting on his career, Dr. Crowley attributes his lifelong success to two primary factors: the unwavering love and support of his family and the enduring connection he shares with students who continue to recognize him years after leaving his classroom. These relationships have shaped both his teaching philosophy and editorial pursuits.

Civic engagement has also been central throughout Dr. Crowley's life. For more than 25 years, he has served as an emeritus board member for the Haitian Health Foundation—a role that included acting as recording secretary—and participated directly by traveling on 10 occasions to Haiti as part of teams providing basic healthcare services. His dedication was formally recognized through a letter of commendation from Dr. Lowney. In addition, he has volunteered for over a decade as a mentor through a state agency based in Branford, Connecticut, supporting a young man from childhood into adolescence—a relationship marked by shared experiences such as visits to Hammonasset Beach State Park.

In his personal life, Dr. Crowley finds joy in writing poetry, a pursuit he continues to refine as both personal practice and professional example for students past and present. Deeply influenced by Mary Oliver—whom he regards as a mentor—he draws inspiration from her accessible approach to nature poetry and her book Devotions. He views her legacy as part of an unbroken pastoral tradition extending from Robert Frost. He also prioritizes spending time with his family, which includes children, grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Looking ahead, Dr. Crowley remains committed to producing publishable poetry, recently submitting work to esteemed outlets such as The Atlantic and The Nation. He also seeks to develop new anthologies that reflect both personal insight and collective experience within the literary community.
