Early Tooth Care Begins with Pajamas Day Fun

Dr. Michael Koczarski hosts an annual "pajama day" to engage kids in a fun way so that they enjoy their early dental visits and want to take care of their smiles.

WOODINVILLE, WA, February 15, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Michael Koczarski has found a way to fill his dental practice with giggling kids; he wears his pajamas to work. Well not everyday, just on February 16th. This annual "pajama day" tradition is all about engaging kids in a fun way so that they enjoy their early dental visits and want to take care of their smiles.

"While we've seen great improvement in overall oral health habits, there has been a concerning rise in tooth decay among children aged 2 to 5 years," explains Dr. Koczarski. "Each February, during the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsored National Children's Dental Health Month, we create a fun pajama zone in our office and participate in educational events, like the KidsQuest Museum Dental Doc workshop, so that kids will see visiting the dentist and caring for their own smiles as an enjoyable activity."

Tooth decay is the single-most common chronic childhood disease, yet 90 percent of all tooth decay is preventable. To address this serious threat, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that each child should have a dentist visit by his/her first birthday.

"Many new parents don't know that even babies should have their teeth brushed as soon as their first tooth pops out," comments Dr. Koczarski. "Also, once a child can hold a toothbrush they can be taught to brush their teeth after each meal, before that Mom and Dad can help out." During all pediatric patient visits, Dr. Koczarski and his hygiene staff discuss tooth decay prevention techniques for babies and young children, and review fluoride benefits, as well as healthy eating habits with limits on sugary treats.

Dr. Michael Koczarski operates a private practice in Woodinville emphasizing aesthetic and laser dentistry. He was recognized recently with the 2008 Best of Western Washington Dentist top honors. He is also a two-time winner of Seattle Magazine's Top Cosmetic Dentist Award, and is the only Northwest Dentist to appear on ABC's Extreme Makeover.

He recently received the highly acclaimed distinction of Fellowship with The Academy of Comprehensive Esthetics (A.C.E.). Granted to dentists who provide the highest quality of dental care, this A.C.E. Fellowship symbolizes excellence in the dental profession and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care.

Dr. Koczarski is also Editor of the prestigious Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry, co-director of The Hornbrook Group, past co-director of the PAC Live at the University of Pacific, and is published in a variety of other dental journals. His ongoing commitment to dental excellence in patient care and state of the art techniques has led him to instruct several live patient hands-on programs across the country and in Europe, and to serve as a mentor, teacher, and instructor to dental professionals nationwide.
