Think Green When Purchasing a Wood Stove

Wood Stove performance should not only be measured in terms of heat output, but also the impact on the environment.

PORTLAND, TN, April 30, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Here's some ways that Scandinavian wood stove manufacturer Morso - www.morsousa.com - is "Thinking Green":

RENEWABLE ENERGY: At the Morso production facility in Denmark, 80 % of the energy consumed comes from renewable sources (69% wind & 11% bio gas) and the Morso US headquarters in Portland, Tennessee is now powered by 100% renewable energy, including bio fuel and wind, per agreement with their local energy supplier's Green Power Switch program.

RECYCLE: Morso's manufactures high-quality cast iron products using 98% recycled material. All non-recycled raw materials are under frequent scrutiny, while examinations of new recycled resources are being explored. In regard to packaging, Morso packs products in cardboard and wood and not plastic or PVC. All waste packaging is recycled.

ECO- LABEL Certification: Over 21 Morso stoves have been awarded the Nordic Swan Eco-label. Introduced by the Nordic Council of Ministers this public environmental certification required low particle emissions and high efficiency, and recognizes companies that are actively reducing their 'environmental footprint' in terms of production practices and packaging.

CARBON-NEUTRAL FUEL CHOICE: Wood is a plentiful, renewable, non-fossil natural product and when used as fuel it is in effect 'carbon-neutral' meaning that the CO2 released when burning is being absorbed by the tree that has been replanted; in fact the same level of CO2 would have been emitted by a tree that had been left to rot naturally on the forest floor.

When the use of sustainably-harvested, properly processed and seasoned wood for energy displaces the use of fossil fuels, the result is a net reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

ENERGY EFFICIENT: Morso stoves meet; even surpass the strictest environmental standards in the world, including EPA and Norwegian Standard NS 3058/3059 for the lowest particulate emissions

YOU CAN KEEP SOME GREEN-- $$$ : The 2009 Economic Stimulus legislation signed into law on Feb. 17, 2009, by President Obama includes a 30% tax credit (up to $1,500) for homeowners who purchase a 75%-efficient biomass-burning stove in 2009 and 2010. This tax credit will help homeowners save on energy costs while utilizing renewable, biomass fuels such as wood, pellets and corn.

While the new tax credit takes effect immediately, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has not issued the guidelines for determining what stoves meet the efficiency requirements to qualify for the credit or how a manufacturer will qualify their products. These guidelines are expected by April 30, 2009, however the credit applies to all qualifying stoves sold in 2009.
