Barbara L. Desmond, BSW Honored for Excellence in Social Services

    GREENSBURG, PA, August 6, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Barbara L. Desmond, Caseworker at Westmoreland County Children's Bureau, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of social services.

A certified child welfare professional, Barbara L. Desmond is responsible for case management, protecting children from abuse and negligence, ensuring family preservation, and monitoring children in foster care. Inspired by personal experiences and Dave Pelzer's book entitled 'A Child Called "It": One Child's Courage to Survive,' she made the decision to commit her professional life to social work. Ms. Desmond received the Social Work Achievement Award from Seton Hill University in 2005 and 2007 and was recognized by Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges in 2007. She attributes her success to the support she receives from her family, friends and colleagues.

Ms. Desmond earned her Bachelor of Social Work from Seton Hill University in 2007—an achievement she considers to be the highlight of her career. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and a Seton Social Work board member, and is a supporter of Parent WISE of the Family Services of Western Pennsylvania, Parents Anonymous, the YWCA of Westmoreland County and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
