WASHINGTON, DC, October 30, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Prince George's Community College (PGCC) will be among 30 colleges and universities attending the Maryland-DC Campus Compact (MDCCC) for their 2013 President's Institute on Wednesday, October 30, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., on the campus of George Washington University's Marvin Center. At its annual Presidents' Institute, MDCCC will provide a forum for stakeholders to dialogue and build a shared vision designed to enhance the student learning experience. By structuring civic and community engagement, service-learning and other resources around programs and curriculums geared toward PreK-12 and higher education students, institutions can collectively impact student success in Maryland and Washington, DC.
"As leaders in higher education it is our duty to construct new and engaging pathways for our students that will augment their college experience," said Dr. Charlene Dukes, president of Prince George's Community College. "The President's Institute is the ideal venue for our leadership teams to collaborate with our counterparts and develop strategies that advance our institutions and enrich our students' academic journeys."
Keynote and breakout sessions will be facilitated by content experts in the field of PreK-12 education and higher education, and will include discussion of community partnerships, collaborations, assessment, funding and more. MDCCC is a consortium of higher education institutions committed to collaboratively addressing local and global community issues through student service, civic engagement, academically based service-learning, and campus-community partnerships. The MDCCC network mobilized over 9 million hours of service in 2011, valued at almost $225 million to the region. MDCCC's twenty-two full-time AmeriCorps VISTA members serve at member campuses organizing students to address poverty and strengthen the capacity of non-profits in the region.
