Within the Hospital Quiron Malaga, the new department of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, headed by Marbella-based Plastic Surgeon Dr.Alexander Aslani, sets out to establish a new quality of care within the speciality.
Being the only department of its kind outside the strictly public healthcare sector, the departments spectrum goes far beyond purely cosmetic surgery.
The medical director of Hospital Quiron Malaga, Dr.Angel Gíro Camacho, says:

Reconstructive microsurgery, extending from breast to head and neck, lower limb and hand reconstruction , will be one of the special features on offer within the hospital Plastic surgery department.
Dr.Aslani is also director of the renowned Cirumed Clinic, which is located in neighbouring Marbella .
As chief surgeon of the clinic he has performed about 500 aesthetic procedures yearly in recent years. Dr.Aslani will continue to consult in his private rooms in Cirumed Clinic, in Clinica ginecologica Banus, as well as in Gibraltar and in London, at least part time.
But when screening for a qualified Plastic Surgeon to fill the position , Hospital Quiron´s medical director Dr.Angel Giro Camacho had more than "just"cosmetic surgery in mind.
"For us it was important to select a surgeon with international experience and a solid background as a reconstructive surgeon, "Dr.Angel Giro Camacho says.
"Our screening has been intense but we found Dr.Aslani to be the ideal candidate able to fulfill our requirements to recruit a top surgeon in the field of reconstructive microsurgery."
Before moving to Spain, Dr.Aslani has held substantiative positions as consultant in academic departments of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Europe and South Africa. He has also been in private practice in the UK, mainly in the field of aesthetic surgery.
In building the department, Dr.Aslani receives high level support by Dr.Manuel Ortiz Abello, a highly experienced reconstructive head and neck surgeon, former chief of department of head and neck surgery in Rosario, Argentina, who will be first consultant of the department.
The department will also have two residents in training for a specialist degree in Plastic surgery.
"I am very happy to have Dr Ortiz as a consultant in the department,"says Dr.Aslani.
"It is not easy to find a surgeon rivalling Manuel´s experience in cancer as well as posttraumatic reconstruction of the head and neck."
Hand surgery is also in the spectrum of Hospital Quirons new Plastic Surgery unit, extending from elective hand surgery to microsurgical reimplantation of amputated extremities.
The department will be the only one of its kind in Southern Spain offering reconstructive microsurgery in the private healthcare sector.
Further emphasis of the department will be to corrective surgery to unfavourable results of cosmetic surgery elsewhere.
