Irish Classic Poker Festival Adds Charity Event, Online Qualification, and Pub Challenge

Macau Sporting Club, Cork's Irish Classic Poker Festival EUR100,000 guaranteed hosts three-day main event this August; adds charity tournament to schedule and launches eight-ticket guaranteed pub challenge taking place this June



    LAS VEGAS, NV, May 20, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Macau Sporting Club, Cork, Ireland, today announces the addition of a charity poker tournament in aid of the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children as part of its August 2009 Irish Poker Festival. The EUR250 + EUR25 no-limit hold'em tournament will be held on Saturday August 15. EUR50 of each buy-in plus the registration fee will go to the charity.

The centerpiece of the Irish Classic Poker Festival, taking place from Aug. 10 to 16, 2009, is the EUR100,000 guaranteed EUR1,000 + EUR100 buy-in no limit hold'em main event taking place over three days from Thursday Aug. 13. The main event has a 15,000 chip starting stack with 75 minute blinds.

The organisers today also announce the upcoming Stan James Pub Challenge Classic, hosted on June 12 at the Macau Sporting Club. Qualifying players from 20 pubs and sports clubs will play for main event tickets with eight guaranteed plus cash. Players can buy in directly to Pub Challenge Classic for EUR100 + EUR10 stake with one re-buy/add-on at EUR50.

Online satellite qualification for the Irish Classic main event will begin soon on Paddy Power Poker, Betfair, and Green Joker Poker.

Finally, the Club will be hosting a Free Million Dollar Seat live qualifier for the World Series of Poker Europe during the Irish Poker Classic Festival. Players who wish to play in this freeroll simply register for the Irish Poker Classic. The club will also be hosting the Irish regional final for this event where the winner goes to London to play against 17 others for a $1 million top prize.

Live satellites for the Irish Poker Classic have already started or will start soon at the Olympus Card Club, Waterford; JP Poker, Dublin; Cue Club, Killarney; Fitzpatrick's, Limerick; and The Eglinton, Galway with 10 seats guaranteed. The Celtic Poker Tour Midlands will also run a satellite with a number of seats guaranteed and cash option on the night of the event.

Last year Rob Taylor topped a record field of 169 which included Annette Obrestad, Michael Greco, Ian Woodley, Roy Brindley, Marty Smyth, Jeff Duval, Sylvester Geoghegan, and Mick McCloskey, collecting EUR46,000 and the title of Irish Poker Classic champion. This year over 200 players are expected to attend what has become one of the best poker festivals in Europe.

The Macau Sporting Club is currently guaranteeing one ticket each Tuesday in its EUR50 + EUR5 one rebuy/one add on tournament and two tickets on the last Thursday of each month in its EUR100 + EUR10 one rebuy/one add on tournament. Super satellites for all events are running daily at the club.
