Sukhi's Gourmet Indian Foods Wins The Silver Sofi Award In Multiple Categories

Two outstanding products have been recognized by the NASFT during the 2009 SOFI Award competition in two categories -- Chicken Tikka Masala from Sukhi's new Lean Fare line, and Samosas and Chutney, an authentic, savory appetizer.

HAYWARD, CA, May 24, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fresh from their triumphant win of the Gold Award for Tikka Masala Sauce during the 2008 SOFI competition at the New York Fancy Food Show, Sukhi's Gourmet Indian Foods proudly announces that two products in their rapidly growing line of authentic, all natural Indian cuisine have been named Silver Finalists once again in the 2009 competition.

The SOFI Awards are considered the highest honor in the $60 billion U.S. specialty food industry. The competition is open to members of the NASFT, a not-for-profit trade association established in 1952. Gold Award winners are selected at the NASFT's Summer Fancy Food Show in New York, and will be announced in a special ceremony at the show hosted by celebrity chef Ming Tsai.

From a list of 1,433 submissions 111 product finalists were chosen, two of which belong to Sukhi's product line. Sukhi's Chicken Tikka Masala, a product recently introduced in the brand new Lean Fare frozen entree line received a nomination in the Diet & Lifestyle category, and Sukhi's Samosas and Chutney, a ready to bake savory appetizer, garnered a second nomination in the Frozen Savory category.

"While I am honored and rewarded by the fact that our recipes continue to receive recognition by food experts in the industry," says founder Sukhi Singh, "What gives me even more pleasure is that Indian food is finally making its place on the American dinner table and I am able to play a part in making that happen."

With the growing popularity of ethnic cuisine and the increased consumer demand for lighter, healthier choices made with premium ingredients, Sukhi's Lean Fare Chicken Tikka Masala offered the judges tender, bite size chicken morsels in a spunky, mildly spicy sauce that delivers all of the rich creaminess of traditional Tikka Masala with a considerable reduction in fat, calories and sodium. Sukhi's Samosas and Chutney, an innovative addition to the heat and serve appetizer category, tantalized the taste buds of the judges with the fresh taste of potatoes, peas and authentic Indian spices wrapped in a flaky pastry. The accompanying portion of Sukhi's bright, best selling Cilantro Chutney provided pure dipping pleasure.

The Sukhi's family venture started in a few hundred square feet over 15 years ago. Through years of hard work and the involvement of the entire family, Sukhi's Gourmet Indian Foods has reached across the country with rave reviews. With multiple awards year after year, Sukhi's now joins the ranks of successful food companies whose passion for excellence and commitment to quality has earned them a well-deserved place in the specialty food category.
