CLARKSVILLE, TN, May 30, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joyce Groves Holland, Author, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of writing.

Joyce Groves Holland is a very successful author having written a published book, "Fifty First," which is semi-autobiographical about her experiences working for the parks department in the heart of South Central Los Angeles. She is also a short story film maker and is currently working on a book about her great grandfather, Junius Groves who was the first African American millionaire west of the Mississippi. He was an ex-slave who walked from Kentucky to Kansas with 90 cents in his pocket during the "Exoduster Movement." He settled in Edwardsville, Kansas, where he accumulated over 2,500 acres of land, and built a 25-room mansion with a ballroom on the top floor which doubled as a skating rink for his children. He was called the "Potato King" because of his self-taught scientific method of farming; he raised more potatoes than anyone in the world. He was very altruistic. Junius contributed to his community, designed and donated money to build a community church and assisted other ex-slaves to be land owners. He was also the first African American to own a top-of-the-line 18-hole golf course. Booker T. Washington was a personal friend who wrote about Junius Groves in his book "Negroes in Business." Edwardsville, Kansas is currently building "Junius Groves Parkway" to honor his historic accomplishments to the area. Junius' descendants were/are authors, politicians, historic military men; Tuskeegee Airmen (first African American pilots) and Triple Nickel, (first African American paratroopers), doctors, and educators.

Mrs. Holland is a former debutante and spends a tremendous amount of her time with her three children. Her husband, MSG Steven Jerome Holland is retired military and now owns his own successful business. She is the daughter of Edward Groves, a former "Triple Nickel" in the U.S. military and Delores Clarke Groves Burke. Mrs. Holland attributes her success to her faith in God, and Jesus the Christ, and the loving support of her husband, Steven, and her three children as well as her father, Edward Groves, who taught her to treat everyone with respect.

Mrs. Holland has a Bachelor's of Science degree from Austin Peay State University. She assists families in need, has received various awards from the charities and organizations to which she contributes, and awards stemming from her work with members of the South Central Los Angeles community.
