Caroline Watkins Townes' parents instilled in her the value of education

LAURELTON, NY, June 28, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Caroline Watkins Townes, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of education.

Ms. Townes is very proud of her work with children for the last 55 years. In addition to having taught fifth, sixth and seventh grades, she was a school librarian in elementary school as well as in high school. She became involved in her profession because of her parents' encouragement. She has also served as an auxiliary police person. Currently, Ms. Townes is on the Board of the Federated Blocks of Laurelton, where she has been able to set up tutoring programs for children by training other students to tutor. She is a school volunteer for the Learning Leaders Program.

A member of the National Association of University Women, Ms. Townes received her Master of Library Science in 1969 from Queens College and her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1955, from the The City College of The City University of New York. She received the Woman of the Year Award, from The Laurelton Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Club, Inc. in 2009. The African-American Carribbean Education Association awarded Ms. Townes in recognition of lifetime achievements in her career and outstanding service contributions to the community on August 2nd, 2008.
