Tampa Braces Expert Upgrades to Laser Tech, Boosts Care Quality

Dr. Michael Hess' Tampa orthodontics practice has implemented dental laser technology, all the while enhancing patient recovery times and improving care technique.

TAMPA, FL, July 10, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Michael Hess, a leading practitioner in Tampa orthodontics, has recently added dental laser technology to his practice. The equipment, according to distributor, Zap Lasers, LLC, decreases the amount of anesthetic required for surgery, and increases healing times for patients.

"The big reason we use dental laser technology in our orthodontics treatment is for contouring the gum tissue after orthodontics are implemented," said Dr. Hess. "If needed, we can remove soft tissue from teeth if they are still covered with minimal pain and discomfort. With dental lasers, we are also happy to remove canker sores if our patients are in pain. It is a simple procedure that we use to help alleviate our patients' pain."

According to Zap Lasers, the OrthoLase is the first diode laser designed for orthodontists. It can be used for a host of orthodontic procedures accompanied by a topical anesthetic without any bleeding, swelling, recession, or pain.

The use of lasers in dentistry was introduced in 1997, when the Federal Drug Administration (FDA), who works closely with the American Dental Association (ADA) and other dental institutions, approved the erbium YAG laser for the treatment of tooth decay. Dental lasers have come a long way since then, and new niche technologies are being implemented for specialized practices as dental lasers evolve.

Zap Laser's Web site records the FDA's approval of over twenty orthodontic procedures using dental lasers. These include: biopsies, exposing unerupted teeth, fibroma removal, frenectomy, frenotomy, gingival troughing for crown impression, crown lengthening, gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, gingival incision/excision, hemostasis, implant recovery, drainage of abscesses, diseased/infected/inflamed/necrosed soft tissue removal, soft tissue curettage, leukoplakia, operculectomy, oral papillectomies, pulpotomy, root canal therapy, reduction of gingival hypertrophy, sulcular debridement, treatment of canker sores/ulcers/oral mucosa, and vestibuloplasty.

"I love the new equipment," said the Tampa braces expert. "Patients are little apprehensive at first when I tell them we use a laser for the procedure. But, once they see the results, they love it!"
