Kenneth C. Sands, MD Named Professional of the Year in Orthopedic Surgery

ROME, GA, July 9, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kenneth C. Sands, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon at Harbin Clinic, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Orthopedic Surgery. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only two male and two female members in each discipline are named professionals of the year. The Cambridge Who's Who selection committee chooses these special honorees based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements and leadership abilities.

With an impressive professional background in the healthcare field, Kenneth C. Sands, MD spearheaded the effort to develop the Center for Joint Replacement Surgery at Floyd Medical Center. Under Dr. Sands' leadership as medical director, the Joint Replacement department was designated a National Center of Excellence for Total Joint Replacement. To date, the Floyd Center of Excellence for Total Joint Replacement is only one of two centers in the state of Georgia to hold that distinction.

Dr. Sands is a talented surgeon who excels in full and partial joint replacement, complex revision replacement surgery and hip resurfacing. Dr Sands was the first surgeon to perform the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing in the state of Georgia, and was one of an initial 50 surgeons to perform the surgery in the United States. Eager to share his knowledge with his fellow physicians, Dr. Sands travels frequently to lecture about the particulars of hip resurfacing.

Prior to joining the Harbin Clinic, Dr. Sands was a staff surgeon for the U.S. Army. He notes that a desire to assist patients of all ages prompted him to become involved in orthopedics, and considers having the ability to help people regain mobility to be the most gratifying aspect of his career. Dr. Sands earned an MD from Tulane University School of Medicine and received a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Duke University. He completed a residency at the State University of New York in Brooklyn and a fellowship in Orthopedic Joint Replacement at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute. His professional affiliations include the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the Georgia Orthopaedic Society.
