San Juan, PR, July 9, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ilsa López-Valles, Professor for University of Puerto Rico at Carolina, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education.

With 12 years of professional experience, Ms. López-Valles attributes her success to the support she receives from her parents. As a professor at University of Puerto Rico at Carolina, she created the English Department's Annual Literary contests and continues to coordinate them, edits the department's newsletter, translates contributions from Spanish to English and conducts workshops for faculty and students. She also teaches English as a second language, and became involved in her profession because she comes from a family of educators. She has directed, produced, choreographed and adapted plays for the academia and the church community of which she is a member.

Ms. López-Valles has published two books of short stories, articles and poetry in scholarly journals, short stories for children and is currently working on a book of poetry. She has also commenced graduate studies in Caribbean Literature. In 1995, she received her Master of Arts in English Literature of the 19th Century from the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras. She is a member of the International Reading Association, Puerto Rico Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, and the Golden Key International Honour Society.

University of Puerto Rico at Carolina provides higher education including English as a second language, hotel administration and management, graphic arts, criminal justice, tourism, among others.
