New Book "Lice Advice" Helps Take The Mystery Out Of Lice And Nit Removal

Lice Advice guides parents every step of the way towards a successful end to their head lice problems. Its easy to read format, with step by step photos, helps take the stress out of treating head lice.

WEST PALM BEACH, FL, July 13, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- If you are like most people, head lice is one subject you would much rather avoid. That is until it's your family battling it. Families often admit that when it comes to ridding head lice they quickly develop an unquenchable thirst for any and all information related to it. "I scoured the Internet" said Lisa Hunter, a Florida mom who found lice hiding on her 9 year old daughter's head. "I read everything I could find" she added. That however only added to the problem. According to Hunter "The more I read, the more overwhelmed I became. There was just too much conflicting information. Do you bag, don't you bag. What's a person to do? And the information on some of the sites, you have to question if it's even true."

It was the constant request for more accurate information that inspired lice expert Katie Shepherd; Executive Director of Lice Solutions Resource Network, Inc. [a nonprofit head lice awareness and control center] located in West Palm Beach, Fl, to write the new book Lice Advice- The Shepherd Method of Strand by Strand Nit Removal.

"The ability to reach more families has always been a concern of mine" Shepherd stated. "Parents literally call in tears, begging me to help. They always ask "What does it take to get a Lice Solutions in our area?" Naturally it takes money and between lice being such an unpopular subject and our tough economy, the needed funds just aren't coming. "Only through better lice education and more effective techniques can we truly make a difference in the fight against head lice. Unfortunately as I always say '"You have to walk the walk to appreciate the need"' Shepherd explained.

That hasn't stopped Shepherd however as she continues to seek ways to reach more families. "We have an office in West Palm Beach, Fl. and another one in Nashville, TN but without additional funds we can only grow so fast" Shepherd said. "We also have trained services in several areas including Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, LA, San Francisco, Tampa, Boston and Long Island but it still isn't enough. I knew the only way to really help more families was to share our knowledge and technique in an easy to read book, one that was filled with step by step photos. Now parents can get the help they need whether they live in Alaska or Wisconsin- even England or Australia. We've even sent copies of the book to Mexico, although we don't have a Spanish translation yet."

So what makes Shepherd think a book will help? "I can't give parents my eyes or years of experience but I can share with them the tricks of the trade I've learned over those years. And I can help better educate them in head lice matters so they quit wasting time on things that don't matter and assist them in refocusing on the things that do help make a difference" Shepherd commented. "Aside from that everyone is looking for that miracle product. It just doesn't exist. I always say that a good product makes your job easier but you still have to know what you are looking for and have a technique that ensures you are doing it right the first time. My book is not about a product. It's about understanding and education" she added.

Katie Shepherd is recognized among the top 100 lice experts in the world. She has traveled the world to further lice research, enjoys ongoing collaborations with several universities and is actively involved in clinical research. Lice Advice, The Shepherd Method of Strand by Strand Nit Removal is 154 pages of fact filled lice information with color photos throughout. It's the first and only book of its kind to address head lice at the core of the problem, allowing parents the tools they need to put an end to their family's nightmare.
