Business For Sale Stats: 160 Small Businesses Sold In California Last Week. Peter Siegel of BizBen Explains Why The Volume Of Closed Deals Has Declined In The First Half Of July

Fewer California small businesses changed hands during the seven-day period, ending July 19, compared to other weeks this year, because of the summer vacation slowdown. Peter Siegel of BizBen.com, suggest the volume of closed deals will increase.

DUBLIN, CA, July 23, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A slow pace of business sales in the seven days, July 13 thru July 19 is a consequence of "summer doldrums," according to Peter Siegel, MBA, whose company tracks the transactions involving small, privately held companies in California for buyers, sellers and business brokers. BizBen.com, businesses for sale, reported only 160 California franchises, small businesses sold in the mid-July period.

"We're accustomed to seeing a reduced number of business sales when we get to the part of the year when many entrepreneurs have hung up the 'gone fishin' sign," Siegel said. But we can expect things to pick up as we approach September and the fall.

"And the good news," said Siegel, "is that people are telling me there is a backlog of deals building up for the months ahead."

He cited the "loosening of the purse strings by some SBA backed lenders," for an increase in cash available for business purchases.

BizBen, the state's leading online marketplace for buyers and sellers of small and mid-market companies, has been California's exclusive source of small business sales statistics, and business for sale listings since 1993. Three books that Siegel authored on buying and selling small businesses are widely used by people involved in this market.
