WSO2 Summer School Features Free Class on Building Stronger Connections Between BPM and SOA

Class provides IT architects and developers techniques for adopting BPM more widely throughout SOA initiatives

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, August 03, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Business process management (BPM) is a key technology for enabling enterprises to compete through greater productivity and business agility, and it is a natural complement to a service-oriented architecture (SOA). But too often BPM and SOA are islands of isolation in which the only bridges are Web services that link back to existing processes managed by applications.

IT architects and developers who want to learn approaches to BPM that can add significant value to their SOA initiatives are invited to attend "BPM and SOA." This interactive, online class is being offered at no cost as part of the WSO2 SOA Summer School program. It will be held on Thursday, Aug 6, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. Pacific.

The two-hour "BPM and SOA" class will use real scenarios to demonstrate how BPM fits into--and enhances--wider SOA initiatives. The session will look at both automated system-to-system processes and people-based processes, as well as how the Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) and Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) standards complement each other. Attendees also will gain deeper insights into open source technologies and standards that enable BPM with an SOA, including OASIS BPEL4People for people-based processes, Apache Orchestration Director Engine (ODE), and Eclipse BPEL Designer.

The BPM and SOA course will be taught by Paul Fremantle (http://wso2.com/about/leadership/paul_fremantle?prdate=080309), WSO2 co-founder and CTO, and vice president of the Apache Synapse project. Hear Paul, who also developed the class content, share his insights on a preview podcast available at http://wso2.org/library/podcasts/podcast-bpm-soa?prdate=080309.
