Houston's Nationally Ranked Bayou City Art Festivals Bring Home Eight 2009 Texas Festival & Events Association (TFEA) Awards

Houston's juried fine art Bayou City Festivals, presented by Art Colony Association, received eight prestigious TFEA marketing awards, including six first-place honors.



    HOUSTON, TX, August 04, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Houston's nationally ranked Bayou City Art Festivals continue their award-winning ways by bringing home a record eight 2009 Texas Festivals & Events Association (TFEA) honors. The juried fine art Festivals, presented by Art Colony Association, received the prestigious marketing awards, including six first-place honors, at the organization's recent annual conference in Fort Worth.

"We're proud of the work the Art Colony has produced and the regional, as well as national recognition it has achieved for Bayou City Art Festivals," said Joe Pogge, Art Colony Association Board President. Earlier this year the Festivals received the ranking of #3 art festivals in the country by the readers of AmericanStyle magazine as well as being voted the Click2Houston "Best Art Gallery in Houston." In 2008 the Festivals earned several International Festival & Events Association (IFEA) Gold and Silver Pinnacle Awards.

Competing against other festivals held in Texas with similar budgets, the Bayou City Art Festivals (BCAF) were honored with awards as follows:

Houston's next Bayou City Art Festival Downtown, set for October 10-11, is a one-of-a-kind outdoor gallery framed by Houston's world-class skyline. Over the two-day festival, art lovers enjoy the mix of visual, performing, culinary and interactive arts set up in pedestrian promenades in and around downtown Houston's City Hall/Hermann Square, Houston Public Library Downtown Plaza and Sam Houston Park, home to the Capital One Bank Creative Zone and international food and wine cafes.

The City of Houston and Houston Parks & Recreation Department, Budweiser , Capital One Bank , KTRK-TV, Houston Chronicle and Legacy at Memorial high-rise apartments are among the Festival sponsors. The Festival is funded in part by grants from the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.

Over the past 37 years, the Art Colony Association, producer of Bayou City Art Festival Downtown in the fall and Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park in spring, has raised more than $2.5 million for local nonprofit organizations. The Art Colony Association is a 501 C-3 organization.
