CLEBURNE, TX, August 26, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bettye Alexander Cook, Educator for Layland Museum, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in education.
Bettye Alexander Cook has nine years of experience as an educator for Layland Museum. She is responsible for presenting enrichment programs including Gallery Sunday and concerts in the park for participants of all ages, coordinating Summer outdoor events, brown bag lunches, children's programs including summer experience and school programs, lecturing on various special topics, doing oral history interviews, leading book clubs, and teaching psychology at Hill College.
She published her dissertation, entitled 'A Chronological Study of Experiential Education in the American History Museum.' She wrote two proposals, 'Power of Women's hands' and 'Single Schoolmarm,' which were both granted. She became involved in her profession after retiring as a secondary English teacher. She attributes her success to her curiosity, ability to try new things, and the good work ethic instilled in her by her parents.
Ms. Cook received her Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Museum Studies from the University of North Texas in 2007, her Master's Degree in Psychology from the University of Houston in 1982, her Master's Degree in English from the University of North Texas in 1972, and her Bachelor of Arts in English and History from Tarleton State University in 1968. Ms. Cook hopes to convert her dissertation into a manual to help mentor young teachers about experiential education in the American History Museum. She intends to continue presenting programs at the museum that will bring the community together.
Layland Museum is a museum that displays artifact collections including guns, fossils, Indian clothing, clay pottery, photographs and game animal trophy mounts, governmental archives, and records of notable personages in the community.
