Animal Planet Host Jeff Corwin to be Keynote Speaker for Ohio Dominican University's Presidential Lecture Series

Ohio Dominican's Presidential Lecture Series will welcome Jeff Corwin to share his experience and expertise in wildlife, ecology and conservation.



    COLUMBUS, OH, September 11, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jeff Corwin, Emmy Award-winning host of "The Jeff Corwin Experience" on Animal Planet, will be the featured speaker for Ohio Dominican University's Presidential Lecture Series at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Aladdin Shrine Center - 3850 Stelzer Road, Columbus, Ohio 43219.

"We are delighted to welcome Jeff Corwin as our next Presidential Lecture Series speaker," said ODU Interim President Ron Seiffert. "Jeff believes that through education and awareness, the natural resources, wildlife and ecosystems that make up our planet will be conserved for future generations. His appearance dovetails with Ohio Dominican's current focus on science education and expansion of our science facilities with the construction of Battelle Hall. Our goal is to educate a future generation of scientists and scientific educators who will focus on these important issues."

During Corwin's presentation, "Tales from the Field with Jeff Corwin," he will feature a number of exotic animals, mostly reptiles and snakes. Audience members will be called on stage to interact with the animals. Families are encouraged to bring their children.

Following Corwin's presentation, he will sign copies of his book, Living on the Edge: Amazing Relationships in the Natural World, which will be available for purchase at the event.

Tickets are $10 for adults (age 13 and over) and children 12 and under are free. Each adult will be limited to four (4) free children's tickets and children must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets for ODU faculty/staff and their children are free (limit 4 childrens' tickets per ODU ID). Cash, check, VISA and MasterCard (credit is online only) will be accepted. About Jeff Corwin
Jeff Corwin is an advocate for conservation of endangered species and ecosystems around the world. His show, "The Jeff Corwin Experience," reaches more than 13 million viewers in the U.S. and is viewed in more than 70 countries worldwide. In addition to serving as host, Corwin is executive producer of the show, and the new series, "Corwin's Quest." His book, Living on the Edge: Amazing Relationships in the Natural World from Rodale Publishing, is now in paperback.
An expert in rainforest animals, Corwin was first introduced to the tropical rain forests in 1984, while on an expedition to Belize. In 1993, he addressed the General Assembly of the United Nations regarding the need to conserve neotropical rain forests. By 1994, he had served as expedition naturalist for The Jason Project, the acclaimed documentary series produced by National Geographic and EDS. In 2004, Corwin won an Emmy for best performer in a children's series.

When not in the field, Corwin lectures on wildlife, ecology and conservation to audiences across the U.S. He established an interactive museum and environmental education center called the EcoZone in his home town of Norwell, Massachusetts. Corwin holds Bachelor of Science degrees in biology and anthropology from Bridgewater State College and a Master of Science degree in wildlife and fisheries conservation from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In 1999, Bridgewater State presented him with an honorary doctorate in public education for his work in communicating the need for a sustainable approach to using natural resources and the importance of conserving endangered species.
