Shirley W. Cartlidge named "Professional of the Year in Education"

GREENVILLE, MS, September 30, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shirley W. Cartlidge retired Teacher and School Administrator for Greenville Public Schools, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of education.

Prior to her retirement, Shirley W. Cartlidge dedicated an impressive 39 years to education, during which time she taught English and served as the director of curriculum and professional development, as well as functioned as a reading supervisor. She even spent five years as the director of federal programming, responsible for overseeing the implementation of said programs and the district's compliance with them. Her passion for education and working with children led to her rise to prominence within the field, and she gained recognition for her expertise in creative writing and teaching skills. During an exclusive interview with Cambridge Publishing, Ms. Cartlidge credited such success to her organizational skills and self-motivation, and emphasized that in order to thrive as a teacher, one must posses a passion for it - otherwise, he or she would ultimately suffer in the field.

Today, Ms. Cartlidge offers consulting services and leads a local women's auxiliary group as president, overseeing its 24 affiliate churches. She also teaches Sunday school at her local church and directs its deaconess ministry. She has received various awards for her community service and was named Cambridge Who's Who 2009 "Professional of the Year in Education," a title reserved for only a select few individuals who each demonstrate excellence and integrity in their chosen fields of practice.

A proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Eta Phi Beta Business and Professional Women's Sorority, Ms. Cartlidge holds a master's degree (plus 30 credits) from Delta State University. She is also licensed to teach high school education and holds accreditation in school administration. Ms. Cartlidge has one daughter and a grandson named Christopher.
