Debbie C. Gordon vows to enhance Hayfield's Education for Employment Program

ALEXANDRIA, VA, October 8, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Debbie C. Gordon, Career & Technical Education (CTE) Department Chairwoman and Cooperative Education Internship Coordinator for Hayfield Secondary School, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Secondary Education. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.

Debbie C. Gordon's Education for Employment and Cooperative Education Internship program for Hayfield Secondary School, is currently nominated for Virginia's Exemplary Standard Program Review - an award that, if won, will ensure additional monies to enhance this career-focused educational program at Hayfield Secondary School. This CTE program benefits many students and faculty members including the 21 middle and high school staff members in the disciplines of auto technology, business, cosmetology, family and consumer sciences, marketing, JROTC, technology education, and health and medical sciences for whom Ms. Gordon advocates.

The Education for Employment Program is just the latest of Ms. Gordon's many contributions to the Hayfield Secondary School. Considered an authority in the development, coordination and administration of educational programming, she is responsible for educating students in leadership, career decision-making, workplace readiness skills, job safety and business ethics. Additionally, she coordinates cooperative internships with employers and fosters school and community partnerships. Ms. Gordon lends over 34 years of professional acumen to her position and brings a passionate and enthusiastic energy to the school. She attributes her success in education to the mutual respect she shares with her students, and considers her appointment as department chairwoman to be the highlight of her career.

Descendent of a family of educators, Ms. Gordon was selected as one of three state trainers for the Teachers for Tomorrow Program through the Virginia Department of Education in Richmond. She holds a master's degree in education, specializing in curriculum and instruction, from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
