Cash for Candy

Local Dentist Takes a Stand Against Sweets this Halloween: The First Annual Halloween Candy Buy Back at Oak Brook Smiles.

OAKBROOK TERRACE, IL, October 23, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- One area dentist is redefining the phrase: "Put your money where your mouth is". This Halloween, trick-or-treaters can bring their excess or unwanted candy to Oak Brook Smiles in Oakbrook Terrace and receive $1 per pound. Dr. Umar Haque is leading this anti-decay movement by giving away a dollar per extra pound of candy. He is going to be shipping the candy over to US Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Ditch the candy, that's what we're saying. Visiting your dentist twice a year and brushing daily are great preventative measures, but doing away with excess sweets altogether would really give your teeth a healthy boost," says Dr. Umar Haque from Oak Brook Smiles. "Have all of the fun of trick-or-treating, and your piggy banks will benefit as well. Plus it will put some smiles on the faces of our troops and give them a little taste of home"

Cavities, or dental caries, is the most prevalent childhood disease today. Cavities are also rampant in adults. 92% of adults ages 20 to 64 have had dental caries in their permanent teeth. Each year across the world, kids consume 2% more sugar than the year before - that's 50 million tons of sugar per year, which means parents need to be sure their kids teeth are being cared for more than ever. Candy, as well as hurting children's teeth, can lead to hyperactivity and weight gain. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces.

Candy will be collected at Oak Brook Smiles on Sunday, November 1, the day after Halloween, from 10:00AM to 1:00PM. The candy must be unopened. Please no bites. It will then be shipped to US Troops overseas.

Dr. Umar Haque is the sole dentist at Oak Brook Smiles, a Comprehensive and Dental Implant practice located in Oakbrook Terrace. His focus is in adult dental care, implant dentistry, and cosmetic procedures. Dr. Haque is available to provide more information at 630-627-7420, or visit Oak Brook Smiles on-line at www.eatandsmileagain.com.

Make sure you come over to Oak Brook Smiles on Sunday, November 1st from 10:00AM to 1:00PM to sell your extra and unwanted candy.
