Cambridge Who's Who Names Dr. Daniel R. Hightower Professional of the Year in Medicine

Dr. Daniel R. Hightower pushes for healthcare reform and new medicines

Nashville, TN, November 18, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cambridge Who's Who is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Daniel R. Hightower as the 2009 Professional of the Year in Medicine. The award is made in recognition of Dr. Hightower's 40 years of service in health care in his chosen specialty of Otolaryngology, for his dedicated efforts to create a better plan for health care reform, and for his leadership as a member of the Board of Directors of Bach Pharma, Inc., which is devoted to the development of groundbreaking life saving treatments for diseases with no known cure. While inclusion in Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only two male and two female members in each discipline are named the Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year by a selection committee that chooses these special honorees based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, and leadership abilities.

Dr. Hightower is a graduate of Coffee High School in Florence, Alabama. Following his high school graduation, Dr. Hightower attended Vanderbilt University where he was a member of the baseball team. Following his graduation from Vanderbilt he attended Vanderbilt Medical School. He then completed his residency in Otolaryngology at Vanderbilt. After three years in the U.S. Army as Chief of Otolaryngology at the 225th Station Hospital in Munich, Germany, Dr. Hightower returned to Nashville and entered private practice. Dr. Hightower was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology at Vanderbilt Hospital and is an active member of the staff at Baptist Hospital and Centennial Hospital in Nashville, TN. Dr. Hightower has been selected by Best Doctors in America for 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Dr. Hightower is married and has four children. Elizabeth Allen, a graduate of Harpeth Hall in Nashville and the University of North Carolina where she was awarded the coveted Morehead Scholarship. She is now assistant editor of Outside Magazine and lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Anne Trainer, who also graduated from Harpeth Hall and Vanderbilt University, is married with two children and lives in Nashville, TN. Daniel Hightower, Jr. graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville where he was a member of the football team, and, after attending the University of Alabama, is employed by the Martin Companies in Nashville, TN. Catherine Hightower is a graduate of Brentwood Academy, also in Nashville, and currently attends the University of Tennessee. Dr. Hightower's wife, Terri, an RN, owns and operates Dermess of Nashville in the field of wellness and skin care.

Dr. Hightower's father, Russell G. Hightower practiced Otolaryngology in Florence, Alabama. His mother, Margaret Ross Hightower was valedictorian of the University of Alabama. Dr. Hightower's brother, Ross is a practicing pediatrician in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Dr. Hightower's main focus in practice was initially in Head and Neck Surgery and is now focused on Chronic Sinus Disease. Dr. Hightower is also Board Certified in Facial Plastic Surgery. His future interests are in helping guide the direction of health care reform and in bringing new medications to approval for use in diseases with no known cure.
