COYLE, OK, December 8, 2009, Bonita J. Pryor, Educator, Elementary Special Education Teacher for Coyle Public Schools, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in teaching literacy, language arts and mathematics.
Bonita J. Pryor has five years of experience as an Elementary Special Education Teacher for Coyle Public Schools. She is responsible for managing individualized education plans for kindergarten through fourth-grade special education students, teaching students and focusing on reading and mathematics. She became involved in her profession after realizing the lack of literacy in some small villages in Papua New Guinea through the missionaries associated with Pioneer Bible Translators. She attributes her success to the support she receives from God and her family members.
Ms. Pryor has worked in Papua New Guinea for 22 years, helping rural residents of the village of Samban to read and have their language documented. Using linguistics, she and her husband devised an alphabet in their language that helped them to read and have the first books published in the ApMa language. She and her husband went back to Papua New Guinea the summer of 2009 for the dedication of 'The Book of Acts.' She also published an article in the Journal titled 'Language and Linguistics in Melanesia.' She is fluent in ApMa and Melanesian Pidgin and creates PowerPoint presentations at her church.
Ms. Pryor received her bachelor of science in elementary education from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1971. She also studied linguistics at the University of Oklahoma and at the University of Texas Arlington, before going to Papua New Guinea in 1977. In addition to her formal education, she is a certified elementary education teacher for K-8, a certified special education teacher for K-12, and a certified mid-level mathematics teacher for grades 6-8.
