Watch Turin 'Come Alive with Lights' at Luci d'Artista

Until January 10th the city of Turin will be taken over by an array of light shows and installations.

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND, December 05, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Unusual art exhibitions and shows may be something that many people staying at hotels in Turin are keen to experience during their visit to the north Italian city.

While some may head to art galleries or museums to get their fix of paintings and sculptures, others may be interested in a slightly different kind of display.

Running until January 10th, Luci d'Artista, also known as Artist's Lights, brings together some of the most important contemporary Italian artists and displays their work in a unique and beautiful way.

When darkness falls, Turin turns into an open air gallery and light sculptures and installations decorate streets and buildings for people to walk among.

The spectacle has been running since 1998 and some of the 14 artists who have been commissioned by the city to show their work include Aio, Borghi, Buren, Horn, Kosuth, Paladino, Paolini and Pistoletto.

What's on When reports that "light games are played between pillars and friezes on the facades of the city's ancient churches and bridges, which are transformed into a twinkling 20 km-long show".

The event is part of Turin's regenerative strategy and is considered to play an important part in its bid to establish itself as an international centre for contemporary art.

As well as creativity, Turin is known for its world-class School of Engineering and has a university famous for its work in the areas of history, economics and science.

If you're heading to Luci d'Artista this year, we strongly advise that you book your hotel Torino as soon as possible, given the huge popularity of the event.
