Exhibition Shows Impressionism 'In a New Light'

A selection of 90 paintings from the Musee D'Orsay will be displayed in Madrid next year as part of a special Impressionist exhibition.

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND, December 11, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Art lovers staying at Madrid hotels at the beginning of next year may be eager to see one exhibition to celebrate impressionism.

From January 14th until April 22nd 2010, Fundacion Mapfre will be showing over 90 paintings from the Musee D'Orsay in Paris.

Entitled Impressionism: A Modern Renaissance, the exhibition will showcase works from some of the masters of the era, including Manet, Degas, Cezanne and, of course, Monet, who is famous for his depictions of his garden in Giverny.

Although the style was considered to be one of the most important French art movements of the 19th century, the display will focus on how Spanish artists such as Goya and Valazquez influenced their Gallic counterparts.

Fundacion Mapfre, which is a private Spanish cultural foundation, notes: "This exhibition, curated by Stephane Guegan and Alice Thomine of the Musee D'Orsay, challenges the conventional vision of the movement as a radical rupture with the traditional art of the time."

It will also address the changing attitudes towards women and the work of female artists.

The collection will be split into different sections, such as The Triumph of Manet, The Terrible Year: 1870-1871 and Women Painters; Painted Women.

Visitors will be able to view the exhibition until 20:00 local time every day. It opens at 14:00 local time on Mondays, 10:00 from Tuesday to Saturday and 12:00 local time on Sundays.

If you're heading to the Impressionism: A Modern Renaissance this year, we strongly advise that you book your hoteles Madrid as soon as possible, given the huge popularity of the event.
