Dowd, Special Education Teacher - Moderate Needs Itinerant for Aurora Public Schools at Aurora Quest Academy and AXL Academy, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in special education.
Mary M. Dowd, special education teacher, possesses over 30 years of professional industry experience. At her post with Aurora Public Schools, she excels in teaching students with learning disabilities and emotional issues. Particularly skilled with regard to reading instruction, Ms. Dowd expertly assists students with low-level literacy skills in grades one through eight.
Ms. Dowd is working on a book about public education, curriculum and scientific/evidentiary based research. In an exclusive interview with Cambridge Publishing, she recalled her initial interest in teaching as a direct result of her own childhood experiences in school. Misdiagnosed by her teachers as having mental retardation, Ms. Dowd is now especially driven to make a positive difference in the lives of her own students. She enjoys assisting those with special needs whom other professionals are unable to help, and credits her success to hard work and dedication.
A graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1978, Ms. Dowd holds a master of special education. In recognition of excellence in her field, she was inducted into Who's Who Among American Teachers and Biltmore Who's Who as a VIP member. Additionally, she was honored with the "Outstanding American Teacher Award" by the National Honor Society and was named "Professional of the Year" by Cambridge Who's Who for the 2008-2009 year. Ms. Dowd enjoys writing in her free time and is a member of the International Society of Poets.
