With 20 years of professional experience, Dr. Yakes specializes in pharmacology with an emphasis in oncology. As the Pharmacology department head reporting directly to the Discovery executive president, he is responsible for overseeing more than 40 scientists (BS, MS, PhD, MD) advancing potential oncology compounds through the Discovery process. He attributes his success to his personal drive and desire to be a part of an organization that discovers and develops new drugs to improve the quality of life for cancer patients.

Dr. Yakes received his Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from Wayne State University and his Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry) from Northern Michigan University. He supports the American Diabetes Association and the American Cancer Society.
