Celebrate La Cinconmarzada in Zaragoza

Anyone visiting Zaragoza in March may want to participate in the local festivities for La Cinconmarzada.

ZARAGOZA, January 15, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- People who have booked Zaragoza hotels in March may be interested to learn about an open-air event taking place in the city.

La Cinconmarzada festival celebrates the expulsion of Carlist troops from the city in 1838.

Locals flock to the Tio Jorge Park on March 5th to eat lunch and enjoy the countryside. Many choose to set up barbeques and there are often lots of parties, concerts and street theatre performances to keep everyone entertained.

The tradition of commemorating the event in the open air began in the 1840s, when the official festivities were banned by the Spanish government.

Residents decided to keep the tradition alive by taking a picnic and drinks to a wooded grove by the river and this has since evolved into the current celebrations.

In 1981, it was officially revived and has been celebrated at the Tio Jorge Park ever since.

Cultural and social associations as well as political groups will also set up information stands alongside the revellers.

For people who enjoy the great outdoors, the city has plenty of activities to keep them occupied.

The Spanish Tourism Office recommends that anyone visiting the region should take a walk along the Ebro River which runs through Zaragoza.

"The La Cinconmarzada festival is likely to be popular," said Jess Reading, head of marketing at LateRooms. "LateRooms strongly recommends people considering attending to book hoteles en Zaragoza as soon as possible."
