Join The Culmination Of Carnival Season In Dusseldorf

People who are travelling to Dusseldorf in February will be able to experience the magic of the city's carnival.

DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, January 17, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- For those who have booked accommodation in Dusseldorf in February, their visit could coincide with the climax of the carnival season.

Officially ending in the week of Rose Monday (Februray 15th), the final parades to grace the city's streets promise to be spectacular.

Each year, locals gather for the Rose Monday Parade, which travels through 2.5 km of Dusseldorf's roads and features approximately 60 floats.

It attracts approximately one million spectators, who line the route and shout "Helau" - the traditional carnival greeting - to the passing floats in the hope of receiving some sweets.

On the Thursday before the grand parade, the female residents of Dusseldorf participate in an old ritual called Altweiberfastnacht.

It involves the women storming the City Hall to take control and show the men who's really in charge.

There is also a parade on the Sunday before Rose Monday, which takes place on Konigsallee where people in fancy dress meet up to sing, dance and have fun.

To mark the close of the celebrations, there is a ceremony to burn an effigy of Hoppeditz, the local jester who inspires the festivities, when locals mourn the passing of the carnival season.

All the events are free to watch and should provide entertainment to any visitors to the city in February.

"LateRooms anticipates heavy demand for hotels Dusseldorf due to the Rose Monday Parade and recommends that people attending book their accommodation early," says LateRooms head of marketing Jess Reading.
