Visit Seminyak for Saraswati Day and Bathing Ceremony

Saraswati day is a celebration of the Hindu goddess of knowledge for people living in Seminyak.

SEMINYAK, INDONESIA, January 23, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Next month will see a special religious festival taking place in Seminyak and across Bali.

On Saturday February 27th, the Balinese people will celebrate Saraswati Day, during which they pay tribute to the Hindu goddess of knowledge.

This holy day is observed by people making offerings from holy books and scrolls in their houses, while work in schools and offices will pause to allow people to honour the goddess.

In the afternoon of Saraswati Day, the Balinese are not permitted to do any reading or writing, as all books are offered as a form of worship.

The following day is known as Banyu Pinaruh and represents another important event for the people of Bali.

Visitors staying in Seminyak hotels will notice people observing a bathing ritual, with many rising very early in the morning to wash themselves in springs, lakes, rivers or the sea.

Beach areas become busy on this day as people say prayers on the sands before plunging into the water.

After the bathing, families will gather and make an offering to the goddess before their evening meal.

Situated at the northern end of Kuta on Bali's west coast, Seminyak is a popular resort known for its lively bars, luxury spas and high-end shopping facilities.
