Experience the Hong Kong Arts Festival

The Hong Kong Arts Festival runs from February 25th to March 28th across 37 different venues.

HONG KONG, January 30, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A month-long programme of special performances and events will begin on February 25th, when the Hong Kong Arts Festival gets underway.

Spanning 32 days, 37 venues and more than 1,200 performers, the festival is a major celebration of the region's thriving arts scene and proud cultural heritage.

It aims to bring the very best shows from the worlds of ballet, opera, theatre and music to Hong Kong, with a budget of HK$70 million (GBP5.5 million) helping to ensure the highest artistic standards.

This year, the festival will open with Cantonese Opera Treasures, which is set to feature a series of rarely-performed and classic pieces over the course of three evenings.

Other anticipated highlights include an interpretation of Don Quixote by the Mariinsky Ballet and music provided by six different orchestras, including three from overseas.

"The festival's wide range of excellent programmes compliments Hong Kong's international status, enhances the quality of life for residents and attracts visitors," said festival chairman Charles Lee.

People staying in Hong Kong hotels can also look forward to a version of Shakespeare's The Tempest directed by British Oscar-winner Sam Mendes, while Steven Berkoff will be presenting his stage adaptation of On the Waterfront.

Festival events are individually priced and a booking fee of HK$10 per ticket usually applies.
