WOODSTOCK, GA, February 9, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lillian Faye Brady Burnaman, Special Education Teacher at River Ridge High School, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of special education.
Lillian Faye Brady Burnaman has led a career in education for 31 years, the last five of which she has been employed as a special education teacher at Etowah High School. River Ridge High School is her present teaching position. Over the course of her career, she taught standard and special education courses for students in elementary, middle and high school, and utilized her instructional talents to teach night school, home-bound and community-based programs. Driven by a strict code of personal ethics, Ms. Burnaman believes that respect for others is the key to a rich and balanced professional life. She considers assisting special-needs students to obtain high school diplomas to be the most gratifying aspect of her career, and attributes her success to her problem-solving skills, Christian faith and familial support.
Having accumulated a myriad of career successes, Ms. Burnaman considers a select few experiences to have been particularly rewarding. She worked on a study for the National Institutes of Health alongside the CSI Research Triangle Regional Partnership in North Carolina and was the sole high school teacher to complete the review and development of the updated Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators in the area of Special Education and learning disabilities for the 2005/2006 year. Additionally, she completed the Teach 21 program, a series instituted by the Cherokee County School District that provides educators with state-of-the-art tools to teach "21st century learners." In recognition of accomplishments in her field, she was nominated "Teacher of the Year" by Cass High School located in Bartow County in 1994 and was a three-time nominee for inclusion in the renowned Who's Who Among American Teachers.
Ms. Burnaman earned a master's degree in special education from West Georgia College, a bachelor of arts in elementary education from the University of Central Florida and an associate of arts from Valencia Community College. She received master's level certification in interrelated special education (K-12) and is a certified middle school social studies and language arts teacher. Actively involved with her local education associations, she served as treasurer of the Bartow County Association of Educators and representative for the Cherokee County Educators Association and Catoosa County Educators. Ms. Burnaman's professional affiliations include the Georgia Association of Educators, the Council for Exceptional Children and the National Education Association. Looking to the future, she intends to pursue a specialist degree in special education at the State University of West Georgia.
