Mental Health Professionals to Become Certified in Clinical Hypnotherapy

Therapists plan to use new skills in hypnosis to impact patients in mental health settings, by becoming certified as clinical hypnotherapists.

TULSA, OK, February 16, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A group of mental health professionals and nurses from across the country plan to improve skills and earn continuing education credit by becoming certified in Clinical Hypnosis this Spring. The professionals will be attending the ICBCH Basic Clinical Hypnotherapy Certification Class, May 6-7, 2010 in Dallas. Hypnosis instructor and licensed marriage and family therapist, Richard Nongard said, "Hypnosis is a powerful technique that is easy to learn and easy to integrate into other forms of counseling." The course is open to registered nurses, social workers, licensed professional counselors and chemical dependency counselors interested in earning hypnosis certification.

According to Nongard, hypnosis is not used enough by professional therapists, who often haven't been trained in using the subconscious mind to break patterns of negative thought, addiction or depression. "The subconscious mind can be impacted, and creating change in this part of the mind is central to long term success." He said the hypnosis certification class offered to professionals focuses on therapeutic methods that have demonstrated outcomes. These methods have been used by medical and psychiatric professionals for decades.

"The professionals who come to this class are going to be able to use cutting edge techniques," Nongard stated in a recent interview. "Not only is hypnotherapy interesting and motivational, but change occurs rapidly. Traditional therapy often takes a long time, but hypnotherapy has the potential to create positive change as quickly as the original trauma created negative change." Social workers, marriage and family therapists, professional counselors and chemical dependency counselors will all be able to earn state board approved continuing education hours hours at this event. At the conclusion of the class these professionals will earn certification as a Clinical Hypnotherapist though the ICBCH.

Nongard pointed out that hypnosis not only has demonstrated benefits for patients, but also can be life changing for therapists who learn these skills as well. For the social worker or other mental health professional who learns how to effectively use hypnosis, it can enhance career options and create opportunity for those in private practice. "Hypnosis is a tool for brief-therapy," according to Nongard, "and so many therapists find it prevents burn-out by helping them to see results faster than with other forms of psychotherapy and it opens the doors in private practice to an expanded base of clients."

Thousands of psychologists, doctors, nurses and other mental health professionals have been trained in clinical hypnotherapy. Richard Nongard has been a leader in professional hypnosis training, and has trained professionals throughout the United States, Europe and in Asia. He is the author of several books on the subject of clinical hypnosis and his recent hypnosis book Keys the Mind: Learn How to Hypnotize Anyone and Practice Hypnosis Correctly has been a bestseller in the field of hypnosis training.

Richard Nongard is a licensed marriage and family therapist and a certified clinical hypnotherapist. He has worked on physician directed treatment teams in a variety of medical and psychiatric facilities. He holds degrees in both counseling and religion.
