JEFFERSON, LA, February 22, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Deryk Jones, Section Head of Sports Medicine at Ochsner Clinic Foundation, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of sports medicine.
Dr. Jones has 12 years of professional experience and specializes in sports medicine and cartilage restoration. In his position at Ochsner Clinic Foundation, he treats pathologic conditions related to the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle. Additionally, he provides meniscal transplantation, which is performed through arthroscopic-assisted or open surgical means, autologous chondrocyte implantation, osteochondral allograft reconstruction, minimally invasive joint replacement and traumatic fixation surgery of the knee, shoulder and elbow. His experience also extends to arthroscopic surgery for shoulder instability, knee ligament injuries, rotator cuff tears and hip, elbow and ankle pathology.
The official team physician for the New Orleans Hornets NBA team and the New Orleans Saints NFL team, Dr. Jones is an avid medical research scientist. He is particularly interested in cartilage metabolism and regenerations, periosteum cell characterization, bone-tendon healing and softball and baseball throwing mechanics. He currently serves as a council of delegate member of the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine and is one of the founding members of the Cartilage Repair Centers of America.
Dr. Jones received Bachelor Degrees in Science and Philosophy from Emory University. He then attended Stanford University School of Medicine, obtaining his MD in 1991. He went on to complete an internship in general surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and residency training in orthopaedic surgery through the Harvard Combined Orthopaedics Residency Training Program. From 1997 to 1998, Dr. Jones completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. He was proudly selected as the outstanding Professional of the Year in Healthcare by Cambridge Who's Who in 2008 and is a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
