Clarke Auction's Midcentury, Asian, and Antiques Auction - Monday, March 1st, 2010.

Midcentury Modern including James Mont and unidentified pieces; Silver including Tiffany and Jacobi & Jenkins, large collection of Asian ceramics and bronzes; Midcentury Fine Art, Clocks including the rarest Atmos "Fond Noir Chinois.", and exceptional Decorative Arts from Lalique, Cartier, Steuben.



    LARCHMONT, NY, February 25, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On Monday, March 1st at 6:00 pm, Clarke Auction will sell 360+ lots with heavy concentrations in Midcentury Modern; Asian Antiques and Antiquities; and Decorative Arts from Meissen, Lalique, Cartier, Steuben, and Baccarat.

Midcentury Modern includes pieces by the notorious James Mont from a Larchmont estate; a possibly Kagan sideboard; an unidentified but exceptional quality midcentury dining suite from a Greenwich estate; a large Heywood Wakefield bedroom set in great condition; a collection of Argenta porcelain, a leather Plycraft chair by Herman Miller and a 1970's Italian lacquered couchs and loveseats with original leather upholstery.

From a Larchmont estate, a large collection of Asian Ceramics, Bronzes, and decorative pieces will be offered including an Ivories Collection, signed Chinese Bronzes, Asian antiquities, Cloisonne and Cinnabar Vases, Contemporary Chinese Oils, Lighting, and Antiquities.

Silver, a Clarke strength, features a heavily chased Jacobi & Jenkins sterling pitcher; a large Tiffany Sterling and Enameled Centerpiece; Sterling from Garrard & Co, and other Tiffany pieces.

Decorative Arts includes a large estate collection of Lalique, Steuben and Cartier Glass; Baccarat and Hawkes Crystal Stemware, Murano Red and Gold-Flecked Stemware; Ginori, Lenox, Russian, Spode, Royal Worcester, Wedgwood, and Royal Copenhagen china services; Vintage Oyster Plates, Meissen figurines, Gouda pottery, and more. Of special interest is a pair of gilt-bronze French animalier candlesticks signed Cain.

Fine art includes midcentury works by Walter Hahn, Robert Andrew Parker, and Stamos; a collection of c.1990 Russian oils; 1966 erotic silkscreens by Bob Stanley; two great pieces of older illustration art; an unsigned oil in the style of Hopper, an Old Master in the style of El Greco; and two large signed Chinese contemporary oils. Sculpture includes a large unsigned bronze figural fountain as well as a large Chinese bronze figural group.

Antique and Fine Furniture incudes a magnificent satinwood dining suite including marble topped sideboards, a Kittinger dining table and china cabinet and other possibly Kittinger pieces; Boulle-style marble-topped commodes, American Empire chest, and other pieces.

Musical instruments include a German violin appraised as early 19th Century by H.R. Knopf himself in 1907, along with a H.R. Knopf New York bow. The sale also features a c.1961 Gibson electric guitar
