Experience the Thailand International Kite Festival during Pattaya Trips - AsiaRooms.com

The 11th Thailand International Kite Festival could be on the agenda for people staying in Pattaya next month.

PATTAYA, THAILAND, February 25, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- People booking hotels in Pattaya next month may like to visit the district of Cha Am for the 11th Thailand International Kite Festival.

First held in 1989, the event has taken place in several locations around the country, including Bangkok and Pattaya.

This year's festival will be hosted by the Mrigadayavan Palace, a former royal residence in Phetchaburi Province.

Kite-flying has been a popular pastime in Thailand since the Sukhothai and Ayutthaya periods, with many members of the nation's royal family indulging in the hobby.

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, King Rama IV organised a kite-flying competition at Bangkok's Dusit Palace in 1856 and regular events of this kind have taken place in the country ever since.

A large variety of kites will be on display at the festival, which takes place on Saturday March 13th and Sunday March 14th.

The theme for this year's event is Colouring the Sky and the schedule is set to feature stunt kite flying displays and a demonstration of the traditional Thai fighting kites known as Chula-Pakpao.

People using hotels in Thailand can also expect street markets, children's activities and food and handicraft booths.
