Ranaan Meyer, double bassist and member of classical jam trio Time For Three, has announced his 2010 summer camp program for aspiring musicians.

SHUTESBURY, MA, March 06, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ranaan Meyer, double bassist and member of classical jam band trio Time For Three, has announced his 2010 summer camp program for aspiring musicians. This year's summer program includes three week- long camps, one open to all musicians of any type and two aimed at double bass players.

Classical Jam Band Camp, Bay View, Michigan is distinctive in that all instruments - not just stringed instruments - are welcome. Inspired by Ranaan's experiences playing in groups such as Time For Three and with many other improvisatory musicians throughout his life. Ranaan describes Classical Jam Band Camp as "a collaborative and creative music experience where classical musicians learn to improvise, compose, perform and jam!" Over the course of the week-long program, students will learn improvisation and composition skills, as well as the mechanics and realities of playing in a small ensemble. The campers will have the opportunity to perform for their peers and be guided by Ranaan and other guest artists. Classical Jam Band Camp is for students ages 14 and up, though accommodations can be made for younger students. When I was growing up and unable to get into a certain camp because of the level I was at in my playing, it was frustrating because there was no alternative - but now there is, Bassview. Tuition is $1600 for the week and includes all camp expenses. Classical Jam Band Camp will run from July 26-31, 2010.

Wabass: Institute for the 21st Century Bass Player is Ranaan's primary double bass camp. Wabass is a unique performance institute located at the idyllic Charley Creek Gardens in Wabash, Indiana. Founded in 2007, the tuition-free summer institute is led by three of the music world's most exciting bass players, Harold Robinson (Philadelphia Orchestra), Eric Larson (Houston Symphony) and Ranaan Meyer (Time For Three, founder of Classical Jam Band Camp and Wabass). Wabass is an intensive, one-week summer music camp exclusively for double bass players ages 14 and up, covering the entire spectrum of bass playing from basic techniques to classical, jazz, and orchestral excerpts. Activities include private lessons with all three teachers, master classes, faculty recital, student recital and guest lecturers. Wabass accepts applicants age 14 and up and will run from June 20-26, 2010.

This summer, Ranaan is expanding his programs to include a new double bass camp called Bassview. Designed as the "JV version" of Wabass, Bassview is for double bass players at an earlier stage of their development that are working towards attending Wabass or other similar institutions in the future. "When I was growing up and unable to get into a camp because of the level I was at in my playing, it was frustrating because there was no alternative - but now there is, Bassview," Ranaan notes on the Bassview website. Bassview takes place in Bay View, Michigan, in conjunction with the Bay View Music Festival, and will run from June 27 - July 3, 2010.

Ranaan sees all of these camps as an extension of the educational and outreach endeavors that he has been involved in all his life - as a way to "pay it forward" in honor of the mentors that he's had in life and the instruction and inspiration he has received. These camps are a way to help the next generation of musicians to expand their abilities and their opportunities and to stoke the creative fires but also, as he puts it, "these camps are an opportunity to come together and remember just how much fun music making can be!"
