/24-7PressRelease/ - NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, UK, May 18, 2006 - 'Be The Band' is aiming to attract 5000 individuals of all musical abilities to take part in this unique online project. Each month, the community will take on an aspect of the band to discuss, design and then vote on. The first month will see the community looking to decide on the four cartoon character's needed for the band.
Following months will look at deciding on a band name, band logo, song and video concept.

Emma, who runs the online student retail site Studentcribs.com, was having a discussion about how the site and its customers could raise money for charity. Suddenly a 'Gorillaz' music video came on screen and it struck Emma that using their customers many talents to create an amateur charity single would be a brilliant idea. Having an animated band would also mean more people could be part of its creation.

Emma hopes that the project will not only create a lot of money for charity, but will also be breaking further internet boundaries.

"The internet has allowed the impossible to be possible" she explains.
"It would have been incredibly difficult to get 5000 people to form a band if it weren't for the internet. Normally it's the celebrity who uses their status to release a song for charity. Now it's the turn of the web community to use the power of the net."

When it comes to recording the single, an auditioning process will be launched to find the human vocalists for the cartoon band.

Emma commented,

"We want to really tap into the wealth of amateur talent out there. We want everything from animators to singers to help us with this enormous task. Everyone who takes part, even if it's just through voting, will be credited as a co-creator of the world's first web community band. How many people ever get to say they're in a band, never mind part of a charity single?

Be The Band is free to join and can be accessed through Studentcribs.com
