With unparalleled expertise in orthopaedic surgery, Michael J. Joyce, MD lends more than 26 years of industry experience to the Cleveland Clinic. Specialized in the treatment of fractures, musculoskeletal tumors and arthritis adult reconstruction, Dr. Joyce manages some of the most difficult orthopaedic cases in the Cleveland Clinic Health System.. He is particularly skilled with regard to orthopaedic oncology, allograft and llizarov/ Taylor frame reconstructive procedures, orthopaedic tumors, complex fractures and limb salvage. In addition to his responsibilities with the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Joyce serves as an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Case Western Reserve University/ Lerner College of Medicine. He is recognized amongst the medical community as a leader in musculoskeletal tissue banking, and served as president of the American Association of Tissue Banks from 1997 to 1999.
In recognition of professional excellence, Dr. Joyce was honored with the Jeanne Mowe Lifetime Service Award by the American Association of Tissue Banks. He was also selected for inclusion in the Global and National Register's Who's Who, Kipling Who's Who and Cancer Doctor Who's Who. He was elected to the American Orthopaedic Association for contributions and leadership in orthopaedic surgery.
Dr. Joyce earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He completed his fellowship (orthopaedic oncology) and residency in orthopaedic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital as well as a residency in general surgery and a surgical internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in orthopaedic fracture and reconstruction (AO Fellow) at Sunnybrook Hospital in Canada. Dr. Joyce is professionally affiliated with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Association of Tissue Banks, the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, the AABB (formerly American Association of Blood Banks) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Transplantation Transmission Sentinel Network advisory committee). He is an instructor for the American College of Surgeons Acute Trauma Life Support. He is an active member of the Christian Medical and Dental Association.
