Give Thanks to the Gods at Tumpek Pengatag in Bali - AsiaRooms.com

People who want to see some of Bali's culture firsthand may want to head to the island next month for one of its religious festivals.

BALI, INDONESIA, March 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Anyone who enjoys travelling to different countries in order to experience new things and better understand how other people live should consider booking themselves Bali hotels in mid-April.

On the 17th of the month, the Balinese people give thanks to the Hindu god which is responsible for food, crops and plants.

In a ceremony known as Tumpek Pengatag, local people will carry out blessings to please Sanghyang Sangkara, the god that watches over all food, plants and crops.

Thanks is also given to the Almighty God (Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa) and the people ask for prosperity in their fields and paddies.

Flowers and fruits are often given as offerings to the gods, with fragrant blossoms such as Frangipani, Kenanga and Sedap Malam most frequently used for rituals and dances.

Ceremonies and blessings of this kind take place all over the island - such as in Pura Puseh, Batuan village and Pura Desa - on this date so anyone visiting should be able to observe the event should they wish.

The ritual is particularly important for the island because it is reliant on its agriculture.

People who visit Bali will see the rice terraces staggered up the mountains' slopes, as well as crops of coffee and copra, which are two of Bali's main exports.
