SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, March 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Sydney Middle Eastern Dance Festival will get underway for the 21st time next month, bringing three days of workshops and performances to the Australian city.

Beginning on Friday April 30th, the event is expected to attract dance enthusiasts from across the country and around the world, as previous festivals have included guest dancers such as Ashraf from Egypt and Tanyeli of Turkey.

This year, the schedule features 29 bellydancing and drumming workshops, including sessions with titles such as Sustained Shimmies, Earthy Egyptian and Bellydance Birth.

Workshops are generally priced at AU$35 (GBP21) for two hours, with tickets for many of the sessions already selling fast.

The festival runs until Sunday May 2nd at venues across the city, including the Marrickville Town Hall, St Clements Hall and the Newtown Middle Eastern Dance Centre.

Leonie Sukan, principal and artistic director of the dance centre, is the director of the festival.

Having established herself as one of Australia's top dance teachers, Ms Sukan has also appeared on Oryantal Star, a popular bellydancing show in Turkey.
