Head to Munich for the Auer Dult in May - LateRooms.com

The Auer Dult market fair provides an opportunity for Munich visitors to seek out a bargain.

MUNICH, GERMANY, March 23, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- People staying in Munich hotels this year may be planning to visit the Auer Dult, a traditional market fair that takes place in the city's Mariahilfplatz.

The event occurs three times each year and the first occurrence is known as the May fair (Maydult), although this time around it begins on April 24th.

Believed to date back to the Middle Ages, the Auer Dult brings people from all over Munich and the surround area to the Mariahilfplatz, which sits on the right bank of the River Isar.

Despite their fair's popularity with local people, it is still relatively unknown among tourists, making the event an ideal way to experience an authentic taste of Bavarian life.

The Auer Dult is believed to be the largest crockery market in Europe, with a vast number of stalls offering cooking pots, porcelain dishes and other ceramic items.

Parts of the fair resemble a large-scale jumble sale, with bargain-hunters patiently sifting though the bric-a-brac in search of a rare gem.

There are over 300 stalls in total, with clothes, jewellery, toys, furniture and books also available for browsers.

As well as the shopping opportunities, the event features a lively fairground beloved by children and the young at heart.

Traditional rides such as a Ferris wheel and merry-go-round can be enjoyed here, as well as a puppet show known as Kasperl von der Au, regarded as the Bavarian equivalent of Punch and Judy.

There is also a drinks tent serving the beer that Munich is renowned for, although the Auer Dult is more of a restrained celebration than the city's famous Oktoberfest.

For those planning to visit Munich later in the year, the second Auer Dult (known as Jakobidult) will take place from June 24 to July 1st and the third event (Kirchweihdult) is scheduled for October 16th to 24th.

To make the most of the Auer Dult - you should consider booking your hotels Munchen to avoid disappointment.
