F. Michael Ferrante, MD, Distinguished for Accomplishments in Pain Management

Pain management specialist F. Michael Ferrante, MD named among the "Best Doctors in America"



    SANTA MONICA, CA, March 25, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- F. Michael Ferrante, MD, Director of the UCLA Pain Management Center, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of pain management.

A leading expert in pain medicine, Dr. F. Michael Ferrante lends nearly 30 years to his executive position at the UCLA Pain Management Center. For the past nine years, he has conducted research on behalf of the center and on a daily basis, utilizes his extensive medical knowledge to provide minimally invasive procedures for pain management. Dr. Ferrante is responsible for overseeing three physicians and five fellows and serves as a consultant reviewer for scholarly journals including Anesthesia & Analgesia, Anesthesiology, The Clinical Journal of Pain, The New England Journal of Medicine and Pain. He is currently affiliated with the editorial boards of three nationally-acclaimed journals and serves on the International Editorial Advisory Board for the Turkish Journal of Pain. A teacher and lecturer since 1987, Dr. Ferrante has written an excess of 47 journal articles, 43 book chapters and edited two books. He also appeared on The Today Show as a guest speaker on pain management.

Named among the "Best Doctors in America" from 1992 to 2009, Dr. Ferrante is backed by an impressive educational background. He completed a fellowship in pain medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital as well as a fellowship in infectious diseases at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College and holds a bachelor of science in biology from Tulane University, from which he graduated summa cum laude. Additionally, he is board certified in internal medicine, pain medicine and anesthesiology.

Dr. Ferrante is the immediate past president of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine and has served as chair of the Guidelines Committee for Cancer Pain Management at the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Dr. Ferrante is a former fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, former director of the Cancer Pain and Symptom Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center and former associate medical director on the Penn Home Infusion Committee.
