Cann, Researcher and Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was recently featured in Cambridge Publishing's Top 101 Industry Experts book. A contributor to more than 40 academic and scholarly publications, Dr. Isaac Cann has devoted his life to educating himself and others on the biological functions that constitute the basis for human and animal existence. Currently a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Cann is interested in the DNA replication properties of archaea, which, along with bacteria and eukaryote, make up the three-domain system of cellular life forms. Using in-vitro apparatus in a controlled environment, this researcher and a team of students, colleagues and other scientists study how cellular beings transfer genetic material and contribute to the ever-evolving circle of life.

With determination, perseverance and a positive attitude, Dr. Cann earned a bachelor of animal sciences with honors from the University of Ghana in 1986. He then received a master of science and a Ph.D. in rumen microbiology from Japan's Mie University before migrating to the United States and completing postdoctoral studies in anaerobic microbiology at the University of Illinois. Though Dr. Cann and his research department's interests lie in DNA replication of archaea, he also studies the enzymes of plant cell wall hydrolysis. He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences concerning these topics, and became a fellow of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's Center for Advanced Study in 2005.

A true student of the sciences, Dr. Cann serves on the faculty of the Institute for Genomic Biology and is a member of the American Society of Microbiology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. In 2003 he received the National Science Foundation Career Award for his contributions to the field, and in the wake of his extensive research, he has contributed to numerous scholarly publications on single-stranded DNA-binding proteins.
