California Divorce Academy Launches New Attorney Guided Divorce Courses that Offer Divorcing Men and Woman an Innovative, Cost-Effective Do-it-Yourself Divorce Choice

California Family Law Attorney Helene L. Taylor and the California Divorce Academy have now opened registration for attorney-coached, do-it-yourself California divorce e-courses that provide legal help people can afford.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, April 13, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- California Family Law Attorney Helene L. Taylor and the California Divorce Academy have now opened registration for attorney-coached, do-it-yourself California divorce e-courses that provide legal help people can afford. The draw of these courses is the guided instruction from veteran attorney Ms. Taylor who will be providing 90-minute weekly coaching sessions over a period of six or seven weeks. In these live conversations Ms. Taylor will provide detailed explanations of applicable California family law, give students assignments, and answer participants' questions about preparing, exchanging, and filing the legal forms necessary to get an uncontested divorce in California. Upon completion of the courses, participants can be legally divorced after the mandatory state waiting period has passed.

These unprecedented courses will be offered several times a year with the inaugural programs beginning on April 20 and 22, 2010. Two versions of the course are available and include a six-week course for those seeking an uncontested divorce without minor children for $299 and a seven-week course for those seeking an uncontested divorce with minor children for $399.

For the low prices of $299 and $399, these uncontested or "friendly" divorce courses include detailed videos that explain every line of every required legal form, downloadable step-by-step instructions, access to an online forum, blank legal forms, sample completed forms, links to the California courts and local rules, and weekly 90-minute coaching sessions with Ms. Taylor. "One of the best features of these courses is the access to an attorney without the high hourly fee or big retainer," says Taylor. "One of the other real benefits of these courses," she adds, "is that participants can complete their divorces from the comfort and privacy of their own homes. In fact, if you have access to the Internet and a fax machine or scanner, you can get a divorce without ever stepping out of your front door."

Do-it-yourself divorce has been a growing trend in California over the last few years. To avoid steep legal fees, many divorcing Californians today are sidestepping the lawyer's office and initiating their own divorces. But, Ms. Taylor says that while some recent studies show that the number of do-it-yourself divorces has risen from 1% a few decades ago to approximately 70% today, the effectiveness of those divorces can vary widely. "Some people start the process of a DIY divorce, but don't actually end up legally divorced," she warns. "They don't finish it and don't even know they haven't finished. A lot of people think if they file the first few forms, then they're done - that is not the case. Pro se parties need a judge to sign off on the divorce and our courses will help them accomplish this task and get legally divorced in California."
