Smacna Testing & Research Institute Issues Quality Validation for Berry Plastics' Nashua and Polyken 367-17 Foil Backed Hvac Tapes

Polyken and Nashua HVAC tapes are the first to receive a validation from SMACNA Testing and Research Institute for their 367-17 UL 181B-FX foil backed tapes in compliance with SMACNA HVAC Duct Construction Standard (3rd Edition).

FRANKLIN, MA, April 14, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Berry Plastics Tapes and Coatings HVAC Group is pleased to announce that the SMACNA Testing and Research Institute has formally validated that Berry Plastics' Polyken and Nashua 367-17 UL 181B-FX foil backed tapes meet or exceed the SMACNA HVAC Duct Construction Standard (3rd Edition). This is the first time any foil tape has received confirmation of its adherence to SMACNA industry standards of performance.

"By taking this step," says Berry Plastics Director of Business Development Ben Cross, "we believe engineers, building owners, and contractors can now have the utmost confidence that Berry Plastics Polyken and Nashua 367-17 is of the highest caliber, meeting or exceeding industry standards as well as all our stated performance characteristics."

The adhesive contains butyl rubber, which has a lengthy history of proven performance for water resistance, leakage protection, and durability. Pioneering its use for corrosion protection in gas, oil, and water pipelines, Berry Plastics developed Nashua and Polyken 367-17 to contain no volatile organic compounds (VOCs), so it won't dry out over time and is compatible with other sealants. The adhesive also has exceptional cold flow properties, enabling it to conform to irregular surfaces.

In addition to validation by the SMACNA Testing and Research Institute, 367-17 tape has met Underwriters Laboratories' rigorous test protocol for adhesion, shear, exposure, and durability known as UL 181B F-X. The tape also has an "A" rating for fire resistance under UL 723 that measures flame spread and smoke index.

These outstanding qualifications assure customers that, when manufactured and installed in strict accordance with Berry Plastics' requirements and UL listing, Nashua and Polyken 367-17 foil backed tapes provide a superior seal for both sheet metal and flexible duct HVAC installations.
